Building a Stronger Firm with Smarter Systems

Ranz Injury Law is a personal injury firm based in Federal Way, Washington, led by attorney and founder David Ranz. As the firm expanded from a solo practice to a multi-person remote team, David found himself spending more time on technology than he wanted. He knew it was time for a more strategic IT partner-one that could remove technology distractions and allow the team to focus on advocacy while supporting fast growth and innovation.

David had worked with WatchTower co-founder Tony Sollars in the past, and when WatchTower launched, reconnecting was a no-brainer. He valued Tony’s responsiveness and track record.

“If there’s a real emergency, Tony is on it right away. That kind of responsiveness makes all the difference.”

Establishing a Foundation for Growth

As the firm evolved, David wanted a better structure around how his team worked, especially with scheduling, document access, and communication. WatchTower migrated Ranz Injury Law to Microsoft 365, giving them a more secure and centralized environment with access across devices.

They also set up a shared mailbox for client intake, created structured repositories for case files, and helped coordinate calendars across the team. With the addition of virtual machines hosted in the U.S., even international assistants could access necessary tools without client data leaving the country. This approach ensured sensitive client information remained secure, confidential, and fully compliant with legal and ethical standards.

“He wanted a setup where his paralegals didn’t need access to his personal inbox but could still manage intake and calendars. We made that happen with shared mailboxes and flexible permissions,” said Tony.

Key Solutions Implemented

  • Migrated to Microsoft 365 Business and Copilot to standardize software across the team
  • Created secure virtual machine access for offshore assistants
  • Set up remote laptop deployments and standardized equipment
  • Moved domain hosting to Cloudflare to enhance existing security
  • Negotiated improved vendor contracts, including with Comcast
  • Provided fast support and strategic advice during travel and tech transitions

A Lesson in Planning

At one point, David reached out from overseas while prepping for a case. He couldn’t access a key system, and WatchTower quickly identified the issue. As it turns out, some protections had region-specific settings. It was a quick fix, but a great example of how smart systems plus responsive support can keep things moving, no matter where you are.

The Result

Today, Ranz Injury Law runs on a modern and streamlined IT setup. From email and calendars to staff onboarding and remote collaboration, their systems are consistent and scalable. David and his team can stay focused on clients and casework, without worrying about the tech behind it.

“Tony’s that guy. I don’t have to know how everything works, because I know he does.”

The Bottom Line

You don’t have to be your own IT department. By offloading IT concerns, Ranz Injury Law was able to concentrate on practicing law rather than managing technology.
